What Makes SculpSure Different from Other Body Contouring Treatments?

Before and after photos of SculpSure treatment results after six weeks.

The FDA has approved several different laser treatment body contouring methods. Both are non-invasive. One uses cool temperatures to kill excess fat cells in specific areas. The other uses heat to kill the cells. At the Vein Clinic, we offer SculpSure body contouring in Kansas City, the method that uses heat to kill the cells. We recently heard that SculpSure may have a few advantages over the fat freezing method.

SculpSure May Deliver More Natural-Looking Results

Recently, InStyle.com interviewed New York City-based cosmetic dermatologist Dr. Sejal Shah. She uses the SculpSure method in her clinic. She mentioned three possible advantages to using the heat method vs. the fat freezing method:

Smoother, More Natural Looking Results

Dr. Shah said of the SculpSure method, “It feathers the heat, so the results are more natural and there isn’t the risk of dents, dimpling, or sharp demarcations between what is treated and untreated.”

Possible Collagen Stimulation

Another potential benefit to heat vs. cold that Dr. Shah mentioned was, “Because it uses heat rather than cooling, it can potentially stimulate collagen and some individuals note improved skin texture and skin tightening, but keep in mind it is not a skin-tightening treatment and not FDA-cleared for these benefits.”

Customization to Specific Areas

Dr. Shah also notes that the applicators (1-4 depending on the size of the treatment area) allow more customization compared to some other treatments.

SculpSure Is Not a Weight-Loss Treatment

Dr. Shah reminded those interested in Sculpsure that it is not a weight-loss treatment. “An ideal candidate is someone who has localized, stubborn areas of fat that do not respond to diet or exercise. Ideally they should have a BMI under 30. They should also be generally healthy and live a healthy lifestyle including diet and exercise.”
