Why July Is a Great Time to Schedule a Vein Evaluation

why July is a great time to schedule a vein evaluation Vein Clinic of Greater Kansas City

Don’t Let Summer Leg Pain Keep You from Enjoying the Season

Summer in Kansas City is filled with vacations, backyard barbecues, sporting events, family gatherings, and long days spent outdoors. While it’s one of the best times of the year to enjoy everything our community has to offer, it’s also when many people first begin noticing changes in their legs.

If your legs feel heavier after a day outside, your ankles swell by the evening, or your varicose veins seem more noticeable during the warmer months, you’re not imagining it.

At Vein Clinic of Greater Kansas City, we often see an increase in patients seeking answers during the summer because heat can make existing vein symptoms more noticeable. A professional vein evaluation can help determine what’s causing your discomfort and whether an underlying vein condition may be contributing to your symptoms.

Why Do Vein Symptoms Feel Worse During the Summer?

Kansas City summers bring higher temperatures, increased humidity, travel, outdoor activities, and more time spent on your feet. While these are all part of enjoying the season, they can also make vein-related symptoms feel more noticeable.

Heat naturally causes your blood vessels to expand. For people living with varicose veins or venous insufficiency, this can make it more difficult for blood to circulate efficiently back to the heart. As a result, blood may begin pooling in the legs, increasing pressure inside the veins and leading to greater discomfort throughout the day.

Common vein symptoms include:

  • Heavy or tired legs
  • Swelling around the ankles
  • Aching or throbbing
  • Leg cramping
  • Restless legs
  • Burning or itching sensations
  • Visible varicose veins
  • Spider veins becoming more noticeable

If your symptoms seem worse after spending time outdoors, traveling, standing for long periods, or participating in summer activities, you’re certainly not alone.

The good news is that you don’t have to simply accept these symptoms as part of summer. Understanding what’s causing them is the first step toward finding relief.

Don’t Assume It’s “Just Summer Vein Pain”

One of the most common things we hear from new patients is:

“I thought it was just the heat.”

Or…

“I figured everyone had tired legs after being outside all day.”

While it’s completely normal to feel tired after an active day, persistent leg heaviness, swelling, aching, or visible veins shouldn’t become part of your everyday routine. These symptoms may indicate an underlying vein condition that deserves professional vein evaluation.

A comprehensive vein evaluation can help determine whether your symptoms are related to healthy circulation or venous insufficiency. During your visit, Dr. Craig Barbieri and our experienced team will take the time to listen to your concerns, evaluate your symptoms, answer your questions, and discuss the next steps based on your individual needs.

If your legs have been telling you something isn’t right, now is a great time to listen.

Why Vein Clinic of Greater Kansas City Dr. Barbieri

What to Expect From Your Vein Evaluation

Many people assume scheduling a vein evaluation means they’re committing to treatment.

That’s simply not the case.

Your first visit is designed to help you understand your vein health, not pressure you into making immediate decisions.

During your evaluation, our team will review your symptoms, medical history, and lifestyle before performing a comprehensive examination. When appropriate, advanced vascular ultrasound imaging may be recommended to evaluate how your veins are functioning beneath the surface.

Following your evaluation, Dr. Barbieri will explain your findings, answer your questions, and discuss treatment recommendations only if they’re appropriate for your individual situation.

Every patient is different, which is why we believe education comes first.

Whether you’ve recently started noticing symptoms or have been living with them for years, understanding what’s happening in your legs allows you to make informed decisions about your health.
