Your 2 Minute Guide to Understanding Medical Micro Needling

Though there are various brands on the market, medical micro needling tools are known for their ability to tackle tough scars and tighten up wrinkles. In the pursuit of clearer, younger looking skin, medical micro needling is a relatively new, more effective option on the scene. The Vein Clinic explains the basics of medical micro needling below.

What Is Medical Micro Needling?

Medical micro needling is a process designed to break down old scar tissue and prompt skin cells to multiply. It can be used to reduce the appearance of acne scars, wrinkles, and stretch marks, as well as firm up loose or sagging skin and improve skin texture. Improvements can be seen in as little as two weeks, or as long as six to eight months, depending on the procedure.

What Should I Expect?

Before a needling procedure, the area around the injection site is cleansed, and a numbing agent is applied to minimize discomfort. The process requires a pen-shaped device, with very fine needles that penetrate the first few layers of skin. These tiny pinpricks induce the creation of new collagen, causing the skin to firm up.

Individual skin conditions will determine how many treatments are needed. Burn scars may require up to four or five treatments, while moderate acne scars may need three or four. Wrinkle reduction procedures may need to be followed up once a year.

If you’re considering other wrinkle treatments, don’t forget about Ultherapy.

Side Effects

The side effects of micro needling are extremely mild especially when compared to other treatments. The procedure is much less harmful than chemical peels and laser treatments. The few possible side effects include:

  • Minor swelling or seeping at the injection sites
  • Mild flare-ups of acne, and milia (small bumps)
  • Harmless cysts that develop beneath the skin

Post-procedure care includes use of sunblock and careful cleansing of injection sites. These measures are recommended, at minimum, for several weeks after the procedure.
