Don’t Follow Trend – Drop the “Dad Bod”

Three men of different sizes with their shirts off.

Forget lumbersexual, the new trend for men is the “Dad Bod”.  According to an essay written by Mackenzie Pearson, “The dad bod is a nice balance between a beer gut and working out”.  And, unfortunately, that essay started a viral trend.  An unhealthy viral trend.

This is one trend you should not follow. Having a “Dad Bod” can lead to multiple health issues. According to the Mayo Clinic, belly fat is dangerous fat. Having extra weight around your waist can cause:

  • Heart disease
  • Inflammation
  • Diabetes
  • High blood pressure
  • Early death

If you already have a “Dad Bod”, don’t fret, there are steps you can take to drop the “Dad Bod” and get the healthy body you need.

Get Moving

I know your day is uber busy, but it is worth it to take a few minutes each day to get moving.  Here are a few ideas that will help.

  • Park farther from your work
  • Take the stairs instead of the elevator
  • Take a walk during your lunch break
  • Play outside with the kiddos

Make Time to Exercise

I cannot stress enough how important it is to have an exercise routine. Working out just 3 times a week can reduce heart disease, help you lose weight, boost your metabolism, and help with stress. Make sure cardio and weight training are part of your routine.

Eat Healthy

I know, I know, when you hear “eat healthy”, you probably think of kale and tofu. But, having a healthy diet does not mean that you have to sacrifice taste. Here are some delicious, yet healthy recipes.

  • Pulled Pork Carnitas
  • Orange Honey Sriracha Chicken
  • Chicken and Egg Breakfast Sandwich
